The foundation traces back to the Boy Tuason Foundation, which was created in 1971. Based in Manila, it provided medical assistance to its beneficiaries. After finding its new home in Davao del Norte in 2005, the Boy Tuason Foundation was folded into the Tuason Development Foundation, and now serve as the corporate social responsibility arm of Hijo Resources Corporation in Tagum. What inspires us still, is the guiding principles of FELICE - Jose “Boy” Tuason’s social amelioration program.
Mindanao is known to be the bread basket of the country with its rich natural resources. We wish to empower its people – some of the most marginalized communities of farmers and fisherfolk in the Philippines – with the tools and know-how to reap the benefits of their own lands. Through sustainable development and inclusive growth, our programs stay true to Boy Tuasons's inpiring principles; FELICE.
TDFI runs a series of programs and projects designed for the benefit of the communities surrounding Hijo. Initially, the foundation focused on education, awarding college scholarships to poor and deserving students in Mindanao. Today, the foundation’s expanded program includes health, livelihood, environmental sustainability and preservation of Mindanao’s cultural heritage – activities that attest to Boy Tuason’s vision.
